When most of us hear the word “will,” we think of a legal document—something that only comes into play after someone has passed away. It contains the wishes of the testator, names heirs, and requires an executor to carry out its instructions.
But have you ever thought about God’s will in this same light? Scripture invites us to. When Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10), He was revealing that God’s will isn’t just a mysterious plan—it’s our spiritual inheritance.

What Is a Will?
In the natural, a will is:
Written and witnessed
Activated by the death of the testator
Meant to bless the heirs
Enacted by an executor
The same is true spiritually.
God the Father is the Testator.
Jesus, through His death, secured the inheritance.
The Holy Spirit is the Executor, distributing the riches of the Kingdom to God’s children.
The prophets and apostles serve as witnesses, recording God’s will in Scripture.
Our Spiritual Inheritance
Because of Jesus, we are heirs of the Kingdom. Our inheritance is vast and life-changing:
Eternal life (John 6:40)
The Kingdom of God on earth (Matthew 6:10)
Wisdom and understanding (Colossians 1:9)
Family and belonging (Mark 3:35)
Purpose and calling (Colossians 1:1)
Redemption, grace, and the gifts of the Spirit
This inheritance isn’t just for “someday in heaven.” It’s meant to be lived out now—heaven on earth.
Living as Heirs
Every inheritance requires stewardship. We can either:
Sustain it like faithful stewards
Multiply it through generosity, discipleship, and mission
Or squander it by living unaware of what’s already ours
The question is not if you are an heir, but how you are living as one.
Reflection for You
What parts of God’s inheritance are you already living in?
Are there blessings you haven’t yet accessed?
How are you stewarding the gifts God has entrusted to you?
What legacy are you preparing to pass on?
A Call to Live the Will
The will of God is not just something to discover—it is something to inherit. Through Christ, the document has been written, signed, sealed, and delivered. The question is: will you live in the fullness of what has already been given?
“On earth as it is in heaven” is not just a prayer. It’s your inheritance.
✨ Takeaway: You are not waiting on God’s will. God’s will is waiting on you. How can you step into your inheritance today?
